STUDENT CLASSES: Enrollment is open to students who are studying violin, viola, cello, or guitar with a Suzuki teacher who uses the Suzuki method. Bass students are also encouraged to attend the Institute or the Virtuosi Strings Encounter Workshop (see separate webpage for more information about Virtuosi Strings. TSUSSI encourages students of all ages to attend institute, including adults. The following programs are offered:
Pre-Twinkle String Program ($175): The Pre-Twinkle String Program is open to beginning level students who have not yet mastered all the Twinkle variations. The Pre-Twinkle String Program includes three daily classes: a master class, a group class, and a music movement class (Get on Your Feet). Students may choose one additional enrichment class for an additional cost. Excluding enrichment classes, Pre-Twinkle students generally have their basic program classes from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
Intermediate String Program ($275): The Intermediate String Program is open to all students in Suzuki Books 1-3. The Intermediate String program includes three daily classes: a master class, a group technique class, and a group repertoire class. In addition, Intermediate String Program students may take an orchestra class or enrichment classes at an additional cost. It is recommended that students do not take more than two classes in addition to the Intermediate String Program.
Advanced String Program ($350): The Advanced String Program is part of the regular institute and separate from the Virtuosi Strings workshop (see separate enclosed brochure insert). It is open to all students in Suzuki Books 4 and above. The Advanced String Program includes four daily classes: a master class, a group technique class, a group repertoire class, and a music theory class. In addition, Advanced String Program students may take an orchestra class or an enrichment class at an additional cost. It is recommended that students do not take more than one class in addition to the Advanced String Program. Advanced String Program students are also expected to set aside a minimum of one hour each day for individual practice. Students will be placed in a music theory class that is appropriate to their age, level of playing, and previous music theory experience.
Guitar Program ($275): The Guitar Program is open to all Suzuki Guitar students. The Guitar Program includes three daily classes: a master class, a group technique class, and a group theory class. In addition, Guitar Program students may take a Guitar Ensemble class (offered to students in Book 4 and above) or enrichment classes at an additional cost. It is recommended that students do not take more than two enrichment classes in addition to the Guitar Program.
Parental Involvement: Please note that the Suzuki Institute is designed as a family experience. Unless the student is part of the Teen Dorm program, a parent or other responsible adult must accompany each student. Each student’s registration admits an accompanying adult, free of charge, to all student activities during the week. A parent or guardian is expected to observe lessons and classes for students under age 13 and to supervise all students and children under age 13.
Concerts and Performances: The Institute offers daily daytime and evening recital opportunities for Solo Honors Performance students, Master Class students, enrichment class groups, and faculty, as well as final concerts throughout the day on Friday, July 28th (orchestras 4:00 p.m., guitar students 4:30 p.m., institute students 7 p.m.). Students are also invited to participate in play-ins and a talent/skit show as they occur during the week. Students should bring concert clothes for recital performances and the final concert. Concert clothes consist of nice dress clothes; there is no specific concert dress code.
