*****At the current time, we are still waiting for confirmation of the 2007 costs to stay in the university dormitory. The latest information is that we will be using the Sterry dorm (see campus map at www.txstate.edu). The following costs have not been confirmed, but we wanted to list them to aid your budgeting process. Please note that the Sterry dorm has community-style bathrooms, which means that bathrooms are located for use by the entire floor. We will have bathrooms designated for male and female use.
If you are staying in the dorms, you must bring your own linens (sheets, pillow, pillowcase, blanket/quilt, towels, washcloths). The dormitory does not provide this service. Be advised that you will need some sort of clothing coverup or bathrobe, as the bathrooms are community-style and located for use by the entire floor (male and female designations). Directions to the dormitory will be provided at the time of registration check in or can be determined in advance by reference to the university website (www.txstate.edu). Due to intermittent construction around campus, some roads may have marked detours. The dormitory during the institute will be the Sterry Dorm. You will need a parking permit for the dormitory (see FAQ for parking permit information).

All dormitory costs include the full meal plan (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). A list of the meals included in the dormitory package, the dormitory registration information, list of necessary housing items, and university housing policies will be sent later to those students who register for university housing. Unless the Teen Dorm option is selected, all students registered for university housing for the regular Institute must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (double room rate times number of persons staying in the room, usually 2).
Lodging is also available at many local motels and hotels located minutes from the campus. More information may be obtained from travelocity.com, expedia.com, priceline.com, or other similar websites.
Teen Dorm: Responsible students 13 and older have the option of attending the Virtuosi Strings Workshop or the Texas State University String Institute or both without a parent and will stay in a teen dorm or designated teen dorm floor on campus. The teen dorm housing cost includes lodging and meals. Teens will be assigned to a double room. Counselors, who are experienced musicians, will supervise the participants in the residence halls and during recreational or other institute evening activities. Teens are expected to abide by the established regulations and code of conduct. The Institute reserves the right to remove, without refund, any student who chooses to behave otherwise.
Commuter Meal Plans: The full meal plan is provided to those students, parents, and teacher trainees staying on campus. For those students, parents, or teacher trainees who are staying off campus or who choose to commute daily to institute, there are cafeteria meal tickets available for direct purchase at the cafeteria. TSUSSI will no longer provide commuter meal plan tickets; commuters can purchase them directly at the cafeteria.
Commuting Students: The Suzuki Institute is an intense experience for students and parents. Classes begin as early as 8:30 am and the schedule may not end until 5:30 pm, excluding evening concerts and performances. In order for you to derive the most benefit, we recommend that you make the activities of the Institute your priority for the week.
Parking Permit: University parking is by permit only and must be ordered before the institute begins. The cost for permits is: $5 for institute participants and book 2 & 4 teacher trainees; $10 for book 1 and ECC trainees. Parking areas will be identified to institute participants at the time of registration check in.
