The tuition for all teacher training courses is $325. If registration applications are postmarked after May 15th, there is a late registration fee of $50.
July 21st, 2008 - July 25th, 2008, book 2 violin, Peggy Ann Crow (IL); book 3 guitar, William Kossler, (NC); the following is the anticipated training schedule:
7/22, Sunday, 4:00-5:00 pm, check in the music building lobby for registration packet, dorm room arrangements (if any), and class room assignment
7/23-7/27, Monday-Friday (institute week), 3 hours' classroom, 8 total hours' observations
The Every Child Can! (ECC) course and book 1 course are required prior to beginning book 2 of the teacher training. Teacher training courses must be taken in order through book 2 (ECC, book 1, book 2).
The teacher training courses are open to all individuals who are interested in beginning their Suzuki teacher training and have met the requirements set forth by the SAA for eligibility to take the teacher training. The ECC course is open to any individual (parent, professional, teacher) who is interested in learning more about the Suzuki Method of Talent Education and is the first required course in the Suzuki teacher training process for all instruments.
To qualify as a participant in training courses rather than auditor, applicants must submit a videotape audition of specified repertoire to the SAA, preferably prior to enrollment. Tapes should be submitted at least 8 weeks prior to the course start date, with the required fees and a completed application form. If submitted later than 8 weeks before the course start date, audition results determining participant eligibility may not be available prior to the course, and will require late audition fees. For courses occurring during summer 2007, applicants submitting tapes later than March 31, 2007 may not receive audition results prior to the course even if meeting the above deadlines. an applicant may enroll late as "tape pending," but will incur late audition fees, and audition results determining eligibility for participant credit will probably not be available until after the course. If auditions from "tape pending" applicants are not accepted, their course work will not be eligible retroactively for SAA credit registration as a participant, only as an auditor -- even if course work was completed. For further information, please see the SAA website at www.suzukiassociation.org, in the teacher section under training, the downloadable video audition application form (with instructions); or call the SAA toll free (888) 378-9854 for this form.
All workshop participants are asked to prepare the repertoire to be studied to the point of fluent performance. Memorization is not required but is recommended. Additionally, participants should be conversant with the ideas presented in Dr. Suzuki's book entitled Nurtured by Love.
All participants will be performing in class and are expected to provide their own instruments. It is recommended that participants bring a tape recorder and a notebook to all sessions. 100% attendance is required for registering the course.
